No ordinary day at Bowral Golf Club. Golf can be fun!
Today, Wednesday 9/10/24, we saw 22 children under 15 come to BGC for a free intro to golf session. If you measure success by smiles and laughter then today was a great success.
Golf NSW representatives Tania and Tahnia were both here to help with the day. Kon was also on support coaching duty.
Congratulations and thanks goes out to our members Virginia Wozniak and Simon Kemp who have both done the Community Coaching training program. Their passion and motivation are the driving force behind this day and also the upcoming Junior Golf Program being run next school term.
The kids got to practice putting, chipping and fairway shots. The training finished with a good old fashioned boys v’s girls putting comp. I think all the kids were winners and as a take home prize they each received a large sized golf ball that can double as a stress ball.
The day finished with a sausage sizzle cooked by Peter Cottee.
Roseville Plate
The final was played on the 24th September between Jenny Ogg and Sharon Rowe. The contest was close and both played well. There can however be only one winner on the day and our congratulations go out to Jenny Ogg who took out the win.
Hastings and Meg Clarke
The final is being played between Helen Egan and Di Bradhurst on Friday 11th October. Good luck to both and I am sure the game will be enjoyable.
The Club Championship
There has been some changes made to the Championship . Kon and I have been looking at how we can make the Championship rounds more inclusive for the weekend playing members. While we can plan to look at moving to a multiday event for rounds 1 & 2 next year we were unsure that we could do anything this year. Well, we were wrong! We have spoken with the weekend only players and they are very keen to play in this major event. This year we will be playing all the rounds on a Thursday (over 3 consecutive Thursdays). We will be leaving the competition open for afternoon play as well as the morning play. The weekend players have checked their schedules and are able to take a couple of hours off each Thursday for the 3 weeks which will enable them to compete in this year’s Club Championship competition. The afternoon slots are open to any member who would prefer to play in the later time slots or for whatever reason are unable to play earlier in the day. The finals will be seeded and the time slots will be decided on prior to the day. I hope that all members will appreciate how important this change is for the club. A very big thank you to Kon for his help and input which has made these changes possible.
The Marjorie Walker Rose Bowl
As everyone is aware this event was not played on the scheduled date and will be rescheduled for November. We will let everyone know when the new date has been set.
RCGC Challenge Bowl
The Women’s Challenge Bowl was played at RCGC on the 26th September and I am unsure whether the four of us that travelled down to play in the event were brave or just plain silly! Canberra turned on one of the coldest days for us. Layering up to compensate meant you couldn’t swing your arms!! Beanies were essential and while the wind blew down off the snow-covered mountains it didn’t rain very much. That was my positive comment on the weather! Unfortunately, Bowral did not win the day and I think we were all a little disappointed with our scores. The Elanora Golf Club team took out first place. Thank you to Sharon, Kate and Helen for joining me and representing Bowral in this annual event. Hopefully next year the weather will be better and so will our golf!
The Donkin Cup
Last Thursday we played round 2 of the Donkin Cup. A very big CONGRATULATIONS goes to Jan Ferguson who is the 2024 winner of the Donkin Cup with a combined score of 71 points. Well done Jan, you have bragging rights for at least a week! Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2 rounds.
The Course
How good is it to play on the course now compared to a couple of months ago!! The course is looking fabulous and the scores are reflecting the run we are getting on the Fairways and what a treat the greens are. The team working under Matt (the Green keeper Matt) have done a great job and I know we all appreciate the effort they continue to put in to keep the course playing well. Thanks guys!
